Very attractive mid-gold; an elegant bouquet, on the pineapple spectrum; palate similarly restrained, medium sweet, balanced; stylish finish. Drink sooner rather than later.

Golden/Butterscotch in color. We pared with freshly smoked peach cobbler. OMG, what a great pairing. Subtle dry-sweet with strong flavors of pineapple, hints of mango and spicy vanilla. Main more years left.

Color/App: light gold core with medium + viscosity. Intense bouquet of pineapple, orange, spiced peach & kiwi and lime right on PnP; struck me as very primary, still. Spiced peaches, white flowers, honey and vanilla palate. Pretty rich and viscous but with acceptable acidity (though it could be a little higher if I was to pick nits). Still comes across as young as I really don't detect any caramel/butterscotch/creme brulee notes yet. With a plump, moderately long finish, this still has a long life ahead. 91-92 with upside potential.

I haven't opened a bottle of this wine in over 10 years. I'm happy to report that not only has it improved, but it's also in fantastic shape. From 375ml, this wine is still youthful both in appearance and flavor. There's been a touch of development, but the wine still has very nice tropical fruit and citrus, without much overt sweetness. This made it a great wine to go with blue cheese as dessert.

Pop and pour, served to some non-wine friends. I honestly was afraid that this may be over the hill or at least slightly oxidized, but in fact it had a very fresh character. This was a stand-up sauternes with a fresh fruity spicy nose that lasted for 1 week in the refrigerator. The palate is slightly sweet, not overly so, with pineapple, peach and spice.

Bouchon en excellent état. Robe dorée. Bon sans atteindre un sommet de complexité. Impressionnant par son côté encore très jeune. Se conservera encore longtemps à mon avis.

Terroir-istes International - Christmas Party (post Rioja Tasting) (Savage Wines, Cape Town): Mid amber, the nose is deep with ripe peach, orange marmalade and botrytis notes. Quite a powerful nose and entry, the wine has impressive intensity but lacks actual flavour concentration preferring more power and immense sweetness/unctuous. Whilst there is an electric acidity, the alcohol feels too high for Sauternes, and the wine doesn’t seem to sit nicely. Certainly lots there; it doesn’t finish that long and feels unsophisticated.

TASTE: golden raisins; apricot; grilled plantain; fig; low to medium-low acidity; seems open, as it is pretty giving; nonetheless, it's fairly remarkable that, even at 16 years of age – out of 375 mL --, this does not yet taste very aged. Drink or Hold.

On ice for 90 minutes (but opened) and allowed to warm for 20 minutes before drinking. Deep golden honey color. No tartrate crystals. In the glass: butterscotch and apricots dominated the nose with an orange dream sickle underlay. Just smelling the wine was a treat! In the mouth: more of the same! Good weight, great acid to keep the sweet fruit from becoming cloying. Drinking very nicely now but the wine has a long future ahead of it. Wonderful dessert wine.

The Columbia Group - Back Together Again (Our Place): From a half bottle. Pop n Pour as there was no time to slo-ox. The preceding full bottle of 2003 Ch. Guiraud was consumed more heartily than expected (as it paired really well with the Baklava assortment). The color was a deep gold. The nose seemed "fresher" than the Guiraud with orange marmalade, honey, some tropical fruits and citrus. All of these notes followed on to the medium to plus bodied palate and were nicely balanced with a solid streak of acidity. Should hold for quite a while and give it a bit of air before enjoying.

Supper at Franks (Frank's place in Matraville): From half bottle. Apricot over spiced orange marmalade underpinned by a touch of toffee/caramel and a little vanilla. Medium plus intensity acidity, textured grip on the mid palate, orange and apricot are reversed on the palate with candied orange peel. Sweet but not lusciously so. Nice.

My second bottle and I noted the evolution of the presentation with time. On first opening I was hit by bitter oranges like a classic high quality English marmalade but rising above a quality honey layer. The length is still too short and it lacks complexity but and fine Sauterne

Some 2005 Sauternes: Attractive nose of lemon, honey, some tropical notes, very fresh. Rich palate with more honey, slightly tart botrytis finish. Good balance, but med- length. A good wine, solid and showing well now. Not a lot of complexity yet emerging.

2005 Sauternes Horizontal; 1/25/2020-1/26/2020 (Millbrae, CA): Golden-orange; moderately aromatic with slight paint thinner, some tropical papaya, slight toasted spices; palate is full bodied, sweet but balanced with medium acidity, melon fruits initially present but fade through the midpalate; finish is short-medium with good balance. This is a good value sauternes with pretty good balance and decent at the price I paid, but not the strongest Doisy Vedrines I've had and lacking in intensity, depth, and length. May improve over a few days. 87 2 hours in: Paint thinner has blown off on the nose, and the length has picked up a bit on the finish. 87-88 Day 2: Similar to 2 hours after opening. Balanced, still pretty youthful with tropical fruit and papaya. A bit of complex baking spice on the nose and palate. Day 4: Excellent, balanced, exotic spice and a bit of honey. Lovely Doisy Vedrines. 88 Day 8: Similar to Day 4, excellent balance, spice, decent complexity, but showing maybe a touch of excess alcohol today. Definitely feels like it has fully opened at this point though not at all oxidized. 87-88

On first opening the nose is quite striking: fruit but perhaps even a whiff of paint thinner (!). But after a few minutes that burns off and there is tropical fruit, which continues through to the wonderfully balanced palate. There is sweetness, fruit (pineapple, perhaps papaya) in abundance, but also just the right amount of acidity so that it isn't cloying and complements the foie nicely.
The finish is quite long, with a little bite but also some sweetness.
EDIT (21/11/2019): I'm enjoying another 375ml (after a 15 minute decant) with a "Terrine de canard au poivre vert". This bottle seems a little darker in colour and a bit less sweet on the palate, but it is complementing the terrine beautifully - I've never drunk sweet wine with peppers before but this really works!

Really great nose on this - Confectioners sugar, light and cool, with distinctive apricot and peach, followed by toffee. That plate was light and uplifting.
The balance really stood out. This was best on the 1st night, and drank over 5 nights. A very good showing.

At this point, can't believe I am saying this, is by a nose the best wine of the year so far for us. 12 1/2 years old, but the botrytis-laden tropical fruit (think pineapple dripping the sugar of your dreams). Well worth waiting for, but DRINK NOW. Had it with craft-made carrot cake with the luxuriant frosting. This is amazing wine, refrigerate it, but when you are ready, warm it up slightly on the table and you will be gratified.

From a 375 bottle. I enjoyed this much better than I did the previous one I had about 18 months ago. A very nice and zesty Sauternes. Notes of orange and honeysuckle. Balanced. It is a very nice treat. Looking forward to trying my last 375 bottle in a year or so. I paid about $15.

Please please please decant this before drinking or open it a few hours before consumption as that will make all of the difference. Upon opening the nose gives only petrol and alcohol and the palate is just as muted. After quite a bit of air the wine gains weight and complexity. Tropical fruits like papaya and pineapple dominate on the nose and come through on the palate with a balance that sets it apart from most wines of this style. Amazing stuff.

Almost nonexistent nose. What I could pick up was a very light hint of mandarin oranges, orange rind, and a hint of something like plastic or linoleum flooring that was very off-putting. Very thin mouth feel with muted flavors of orange marmalade, golden raisins, and honey suckle. I was extremely disappointed in this wine. I was expecting much more after reading some of the earlier reviews on the board about this wine. Perhaps I had an off bottle.

Tasty with thick tropical fruit but found it lacking in complexity. It is pretty well balanced, perhaps too much on the sweet side, but did not seem as impressive as the first few I tried ... perhaps my taste has changed also.

Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine. The above accompanies all my TNs. I need to add that I am probably not an objective source for opinions about Sauternes. I could drink it for breakfast; in fact, I might try that tomorrow.
Great. Excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. Very good nose. Easy drinking. Seems to be "turning the corner" in terms of developing the darker colors of Sauternes. Will revisit in a few years to see what has happened. Good to drink now, probably good for another 10 years or so.

93-94: slightly disappointed that this didn't score a little higher, but still excellent. Getting golden in color, nose was a little shy, palate was rich and intense. Acid was diminishing, but still there. Might be in a bit of an awkward stage, or could be topping out. Excellent. From 375ml.

Medium golden color. Nose of honey and raisined grapes with a bit of vanilla custard. Similar flavors on the palate with medium+ acid and a rich, sweet mouthfeel and finish. A touch of heat lingered on the finish but overall, quite enjoyable. I am curious as to the long term prospects of this wine so I will try my next bottle in a couple of years.

Everything I look for in a Sauternes (paired extremely well with ricotta and lemon cake): tension, tactile, light botrytis, ripe and confit orange zest, pineapple, apricot and freshness. Ready to go and for holding 5-7 years easily.

Terroir-istes International - France, Bordeaux, Sauternes (Groot Constantia): Intense golden colour, the nose is deep with ripe aromas filled with marzipan, warm honey and grilled pineapple. There is a penetrating quality to the aroma, accompanied by abundant fruit that appears almost stewed. As it opens, it reveals some savoury, earth qualities. The entry is full-bodied, intense and opulent, with a notable sweetness of around 130 g/l. There is a generous presence of marmalade, orange, and lemon flavors, balanced by a line of acidity that is not overpowering but sufficient. Towards the back palate, there is a warm sensation reminiscent of spun sugar. This is a solid and complex wine, with some fruit depth and a fuller profile typical of the vintage. The only caveat is there is a hint of bitterness on the back palate, and it isn't that concentrated - more spreads across the surface.

Powerful aromas, almost leaping from the glass with ripe pineapple fruit and vanilla custard. Bright, intense and really sweet but balanced by the good acidity. Huge depth of flavour with layers of tropical fruits, honey and barley sugar. Creamy vanilla finish that lingers for a while. Superb and still a baby.

Golden color with an effusive nose of honeycomb, a bit of yeast, and anjou pears. On the palate this is delicate but delivers the goods. Well balanced sweet and acidity with solid complexity. Not the most concentrated Sauternes yet still young and good enough to amaze you. 92-93

Lovely light floral-dried apricot-spicy nose and palate. Definitely doesn't have the depth and intensity of the more powerful Sauternes, but plenty of character and finesse. A lovely light elegant Barsac, definitely much better now than it was 5 years ago but probably not one for the ages. Sweet, light, floral and pretty, like the first maple syrup of the season. 14%, $25/375ml.

Perfectly balanced and elegant sauternes. Doesn't feel full bodied, it glides on the palate, very graceful entry. Very, very perfumed with incredible depth of aromas and flavors - toasted coconut, apricot, poached pear, dried fig. Quite fresh. A versatile sauternes that can also be enjoyed with lighter entrees - roasted fish and roasted poultry.

I could smell this forever. Candied pineapple, mango, dried apricots and that distinct botrytis aroma. The big concentration of those classic Sauternes aromas and flavors plus just enough acidity to prevent it from being too syrupy and cloying make this a real winner. Latches on to the back of your tongue and lingers for a good minute. Paired with foie gras, because life is short. Having trouble thinking of any better ways to spend $22

Dinner at Ripple (Ripple - Cleveland Park - Washington, DC): Rich nose of apricot, honey, butterscotch, dusting oil and some toasty-nutty elements. Gobs of white peach, pineapple, orange peel and honey on the palate, backed up by baked pear, almonds, honeycomb and white tea. Complex as hell, this deserves years of cellaring, but opens up nicely. Didn't decant, but probably should have. By no means flabby, but if this had just a bit more acid, I'd totally freak (but I'm a huge acid fan).

The wine looks yellow gold colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like orange, apricot, lychee, passion fruit, pineapple, guava, light toast, honeysuckle, orange blossom, botrytised and honey. It tastes like apricot, lychee, pineapple, mineral, light toast, vanilla, orange blossom, botrytised and honey. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. Butterscotch, glue and slight apricot on the nose. Mid to light bodied, relative to Sauternes. The palate is mostly dominated by a great creamy vanilla taste, with ripe pineapple and honey. It has nice botrytis and a sharp acidic note on the finish. The lighter style won't necessarily put it in the classic realm of Sauternes, but it is great when you don't want a dense cloying of style. Think of it as having sorbet in stead of ice cream. Crazy bargain.

The nose on this wine has that classic Sauterne bouquet of tropical fruits (especially pineapple and mango, along with citrus peel), as well as honey elements, creamy earth, and suggestions/hints of spices. Make no mistake about it: this Sauterne is as Sauterne as a Sauterne can get! This is a fantastically rich, creamy, spicy, fruity, complexly-flavored dessert wine that’s tough to beat. I absolutely LOVE Port and could drink it all day long given the opportunity, but as far as chilled dessert beverages go, you CANNOT beat a well-made Sauterne.
As the bouquet suggested (actually, the bouquet completely foreshadowed almost EXACTLY how this beauty would taste), there is indeed an abundance of tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, along with some sub-flavors like citrus peel, peach, and apricot. After those fruit characteristics, the more savory/secondary elements become prominent, such as cream, honey, beeswax, mountains of minerals (think of granite from Yosemite), and especially a farm’s worth of savory herbs that I usually find in most red wines (oddly enough), such as rosemary. And of course, the finish is smooth and lingering and probably coats the throat just as thoroughly as the wine coats the wine bowl.
If you’ve never had a Sauterne before, here’s a very brief history. Sauternes are made in a region of Bordeaux (Sauternais) and is basically a late-harvest blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle that has been purposely affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which causes the grapes to become partially “raisinized” and gives the wine that rich, creamy, deeply-flavored and distinctive profile.
Though a lot of Sauternes share a similar flavor profile, this version has more of a savory herb element that I absolutely adore. Yes, there’s the usual cream, honey, tropical fruits, and slightly earthy elements, but the savory herbs in the background really seal the deal for me. This wine is so good I would actually consider giving-up Port (not that I could afford to do that). It’s really THAT good!
We had this wine for dessert after having Korean BBQ for dinner and thought it would contrast nicely to the spicy Korean food. Sure enough, it was the perfect spoil. I’m not a big fan of drinking Ports or Sauternes with food/desserts (I prefer to enjoy these marvelous dessert wines all by themselves since they can be fulfilling to incredible depths of pleasure all by themselves), but I would imagine this wine would pair well with fruit tarts (especially those made with summer fruits like peaches and apricots) and cheeses (the more pungent the better, I would think).
Drank chilled. Enticing aroma. Wonderful dessert wine, honey and pineapple, well balanced acidity, syrupy on the tongue, exceptionally long finish. Hard to find a better sauternes at any price. Served to our guests all of whom said "wow" when they tasted it.

From a half bottle and served slightly chilled. Light-medium gold in colour. On the nose I am getting some sweet ripe mangoes, grilled pineapples, honeyed melons and apricots, and some orange marmalade. The palate is treated to sweet grilled ripe pineapples, ripe apricots, honey, and more apricots; also the acidity hangs on there to help balance it out. Finish has a good length to it and there is some hint of the botrytis at the end. What a great half bottle for a great price. I will have to acquire some more of this in the not so distant future.

From half-bottle; tasted over three days. The wine was medium- to light golden in colour. It offered pineapple, mango, peach, some apricot, orange peel, some lemon zest and honey on the nose. On the palate the wine showed pineapple, some mango, some peach, apricot, cane sugar, creamy honey and a mild botrytis spiciness, paired with opulent sweetness, medium-plus acidity, a rich and creamy mouthfeel and very good length. Very sweet; the first day the sweetness seemed of balance compared to the acidity, but the balance improved over night. Needs time; start drinking in 2016.

First, I don't think there is a better half bottle of Sauternes out there for $25 than this '05 Doisy-Vedrines. I get a lot of pineapple and melon on the nose with a very faint and pleasant hint of banana. On the tongue, honey and pineapple. The acidity and sweetness are so balanced in this wine, and the finish goes on forever. I bought as much of this as I could find.

Oily, concentrated golden yellow color with the slightest highlight of youthful greenness. Remarkably rich, sweet and concentrated nose with powerful, toasty botrytis aromas, vanilla oak, almonds, honey, complex fruity notes of pineapple, tangerine zest, apricot jam, dried peaches, some crème brûlée, a little clove and a hint of caramel. Alcohol (14%) shows a little. The palate follows the nose with incredibly rich, deep and powerful flavors of honey, overripe yellow fruits, pronounced botrytis character, some spicy bitter almond notes, a little yellow raisin and oak flavors of butterscotch, caramel and vanilla. The mouthfeel is very full-bodied and oily, meaning that the wine lacks the elegance and freshness of the best Sauternes wines. Still, there is good acid backbone beneath all the body, but it just doesn't show that much, making the wine a wee bit heavy. The finish is remarkably long and complex with layered flavors of yellow raisins, honey, cloves, pineapple juice, cinnamon, vanilla, slightly bitter spices and even a hint of browned butter. The textured and somewhat sticky aftertaste is wonderfully harmonious and persistent, although the alcohol makes it feel somewhat warm.
A plump and somewhat heavy-set, yet remarkably majestic Sauternes with remarkable depth, complexity and fruit concentration. Probably lacking a bit on the freshness and structure, but the redeeming qualities here are so remarkable I really don't mind. One of the greatest young Sauternes wines I've had; I really wish that with some cellar age the pronounced oak characteristics would recede into the background, letting the already remarkable fruit department have the stage all by itself. A perfect, hedonistic experience that is a real treat just by itself. Simply stunning value at only 19,90€ for a half bottle.

Good, deep gold in color. On the nose, there is plenty of apricot, peach, spice, honey and a hint of flowers. This is full and viscous on the palate, with excellent concentration and power. Non-blind. From glass-wine-btl at Le Manoir (Hiroo). Impression: Outstanding with extra wow! Fantastic fragrance of Botrytis and almonds. Wife smiled! On the palate this is a sweet Sauternes with all you can expect but (on my scale) acids in the lower end of the register. Making it slightly cloying. Wife frowned. Similar notes to the last time I had this wine although there was a little extra nuttiness on the nose this time around and a nice creme brulee note on the palate. This is definitely more of a round, fat sauternes than a piercing, focused one but there is nothing wrong with that. Glad I have a few more left in the cellar.

91-94: tried two bottles with consistent notes. Lovely color, starting to go golden. This wine had an intense nose of tropical fruit. Agree on the honey soaked pineapple upside down cake with a little vanilla. I don't think this is for the long term, as the acidity is already fading and is getting a little flabby. It's still tasty, but simple and a little out of balance.

Explosive nose of tropical fruits, honey and white flowers. Gorgeous in the mouth with peach, pineapple and hints of coconut. Adequate acidity, great weight and texture. Mouthfilling without being cloying. Fantastic juice.

(Tasting note not contemporaneous.) Second of six half-bottles of this. Enjoyed on Christmas Day. Still very young - no great complexity yet, but a good combination of flavours and lovely generous mouthful with good cutting acidity and freshness. Looking forward to watching this develop over the years.

Very enjoyable. Good peach, orange and apricot taste, with a honey mouthfeel and decent acidity. Probably will get much better with some age. Fun and nice.

Honey, apricot, tangerine, and vanilla. Great acidity and nice balance. Will definitely benefit from some more time in the bottle. A steal at this price.

I opened a half-bottle, poured a glass to find a very good, even great Sauternes, though it was not showing fully up to my memory. So the bottle went in the refrigerator for ~2 weeks, loosely stoppered and apparently forgotten. Yesterday the diminutive bottle caught my eye, and I poured a glass. To my elation, the wine had opened up to what I remembered and beyond -- an incredibly balanced, aromatic dessert wine with perfect weight -- what I would call a phenomenally great Sauternes (in the 94 pt arena).

Tasted as part of a Bordeaux tasting. Light yellow color. Lovely aromas of apple, pear, honeycomb and lemon custard on the nose. Similar flavors on the palate with a sweet but not cloying effect and full mouthfeel. Lively acid and an incredibly long and smooth finish. Still tasted the wine for close to a minute after drinking. I am happy to have a few of these in the cellar and am curious to see how it progresses.

Strong botrytis nose. This has flavors of honey, pear, touch of apple, strong acidity. Nice length on the finish. About a week prior I had the '01 and I much preferred this.

Half bottle. Luminescent mid-gold colour. Nose slightly reticent, delicate. But when worked hard, gives up good aromas of banana licqueur, peach, and a floury, yeasty botrytis element. Lovely palate, full and unctuous but not cloying. Good streak of acidity gives it definition. The palate starts off all toffee/caramel, but later the flavour profile evolves to include orange rind/marmalade, peaches and banana. A little volatile alcohol? - there is a slight estery fume at times. More marmalade on the end. Smooth finish. Overall, perhaps just lacking slightly in complexity just now, but these are early days: give it a few years. Really quite excellent for the money.

Very nice tonight, but not as complex as my previous bottles. This may have been served a tad too warm as the sweetness seemed just a little prominent. Still quite enjoyable.

Not a big sauternes drinker, but this seemed to be very well balanced in terms of sweetness and acidity. The flavors of caramel, citrus and apricot carried the finish a long way.

Well, couldn't wait to finish these. Popped these with friends on a snowy evening after dinner. Beautiful color, great nose of apricot, honey and a bit of citrus. Taste was opulent - can't add much to what's already been written. If I can get more I will.

Light gold color. Syrupy yet crisp/acidic smells that included tangerine and caramel. Ultra smooth, glycerine mouth feel. Very heavy, thick, and sticky, with flavors of orange rind and marmalade. Great concentration and sweetness. Touch of bitter and not much nuance--more powerful than delicate. Very long (45+ secs). A bit too heavy handed for my taste, although once I ate a bite of cheesecake and came back to the wine the sweetness didn't seem overbearing. However, the bitterness came out and reminded me a bit of barrel char.

Nice honey and floral nose. Medium weight and viscocity. Nice tropical fruit, some honey and even a little butterscotch on the finish. Somewhat more acidic than I would have expected. Overall, a nice dessert wine for the money, but I hoped for more.

Popped and poured and this young Sauternes was delicious. Good weight on the mouthfeel, complex and notes of raisins. I just ordered 3 more half bottles and at 20.99 a half bottle, it is going to be hard not to drink these young.

Very nice nose with honey, citrus, apple. Opens nicely after 15-20 minutes. Slight spiciness and acidicy on palate gives a nice balance. Citrus, honey, vanilla flavors. Nice finish, with lingering honey and caramel. Not as deep as some of the more expensive Sauternes, but at $20 a half bottle this is a great value. It is sure to please every time.

Rather reserved upon opening with honey, a little dried flower, apricot and a touch of pineapple. Good acid bite on the palate through the finish which accents butterscotch. Much richer and vivacious the next day. Very good but I do not get some of the higher ratings here.

I admit that Gary V's very enthusiastic 99 point rating of this wine made me curious --so, when I saw this on sale at Zachy's for $19.99 a bottle I grabbed a few. The wine has lovely aromatics - pineapple, banana peel, apricot, honey, vanilla, woodspice and citrus. The palate doesn't live up to the nose. I like that this is soft and light-bodied for a Sauternes, but am bothered by the low acidity which makes the wine comes across a little too fleshy. There's some nice spicy botrytis which gives it some lift/dimension but the lack of acidity deprives this one of verve!! Solid finish.Still a lovely bottle - but not a back up the truck bottle for me.

I don't think this wine has changed much over the last year so it continues to impress with its tropical explosion. This time it was was enjoyed infront of the fire place with some ginger bread cookies and stilton cheese. Nirvana. So upping the point is probably more down to the combination than the wine developing. I think this wine is best drunk over the next five years. I think the duel between sweetness and acidity will be lost by acidity - hence sweetness will overpower. But for now - harmony is there.

Pleasant enough, but lacks the complexity to be really special. Some rubber tire/gas station on the nose, honey-sweet with notes of apricot--standard quality stuff. A bit flabby on the back end. Would enjoy if offered, just won't seek out more to buy.

It's been over a year since we last had this wine and in that time, it's gotten even better. I see that Gary V recently gave this wine 99 points and while I think that's a pretty lofty score, it's really not that far off. We consumed this over the last couple of weeks, keeping it uncorked in the fridge and all it did was get better and better each time we tasted it. Absolutely delicious profile of sweet botrytis, honey, floral notes, citrus, and so much more. Wonderfully silky smooth on the palate and improves as it comes up in temperature in the glass.

WFA Bordeaux 2005/2006 Tasting by the Wine Review (Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore): May be a really top-notch Sauternes 20-30 years down the road, but just too sweet at the moment for my palate. Incredible nose though - tighter than the 2006, with lots of mineral, but a whole lot more depth as well, with deeply lurking scents of musk. peach, apricot and layers of botrytis. Palate was just an explosion of sweetness. Honey, nectar, some musk, sweet melons, all wrapped in a plush, syrupy, unctuous package. Finish was lovely. Great length, with mouth-clinging dried fruit tones and a little kumquat touch. Will visit again many years down the road.

Almost-overwhelming nose of Sauternes funk (in the best way!), a bit of oak/vanilla, honeyed apricot, and a bit of SO2. Hugely powerful flavors of peach and apricot with orange blossom honey. Citrus comes on the finish to clear the palate. The oak and funk are still present from the nose -- but again, in the best way, slightly spicy and refreshing.
For the money, there's probably not a better Sauternes out there -- for under $40, this is an amazing buy.

Tasted at chateau; A fairly big-boned, rich wine with great acidity. Enjoyable as an aperitif and simply amazing paired with roquefort. That traditional pairing really does work well! Stone fruits, floral notes and a rich character that is bright and lively, and heavy in the glass. Very nice wine!

Pop and poured, a little out of balance at first but after some air it was smooth, with a strong finish, but felt thinner than my last impression. Will revisit tomorrow. 90 Day 2 - Much better! 92 Day 3 - Layers of flavours, more complex, balanced acidity, strong finish. Exactly what I wanted out of this wine. 94

Nice apricot, agave nectar, and honey on the NOSE. Impeccably balanced on the palate -- medium botrytis, wonderful typicity. I prefer my stickies a bit on the fat side, which this most certainly is not. Hopefully this will put on some weight with time.

Out of a 375, this took a full 24 hrs to balance out some youthful astringency and once it did, it was very nice. Lime, tangerine, and orange honey riding some compact acidity that made it a little "bleachy" on the first day. Servable with meal or dessert, solid qpr. Open day before.

A very nice Sauternes. Young and in it's primary flavors of thick, heavy sweet tropical fruits. A long finish. Good but lacking the acidic backbone and necessary complexity to be exceptional in my opinion. A very enjoyable drink. As it ages it should continue to be a very nice for years and years to come and will continue to develop.

Euchre: Succulent. Wow this is really spectacular. Delicate and sweet without being cloying. Acid stay mostly in the background, giving it structure without taking over. Lots of tropical fruit and honey. Mouthwatering finish that lasts a good 20 seconds. It's not a very complex wine but a spectacular value. The acidity is light so it will be interesting to see how the case evolves over the next 15 years.

Rich golden colour. Waxy medium body with youthful acidity. Rich dried apricot, pineapple, a hint of vanilla and botrytis on the nose. Currently showing a bit of youthful simplicity. Good attack with rich sweet flavours of honey, apricot, candied fruits and butter pastry. Excellent length. Will definitely improve with time. Very young at the moment, I'll try the next bottle in 5 years. Very good.

This was one of seven (2005, 03 and 01 of Suduiraut and 2005's of Rieussec, Doisy Vedrines, Rabaud Promis, de Malle) in a Sauternes blind tasting and was placed in second place. A big positive surprise with alot of tropical fruit on the nose. Good fruit and acidity and orange peel on the palate. Good effort and a very nice wine.

Drank with DBP and agree entirely with his note, minus the score. I do wish it had more complexity but unlike DBP I enjoy sweet wine. No, not sugary crap, sweet wine. This wine just needed more spice for it to make a leap to the 94 point range.

Decanted 30 minutes. Aromas of house paint, pinapple, mineral water, agave syrup, Asian pear and apricot. Not very sugary or syrupy in the mouth, but very silky if not creamy showing notes of pistachio and apricot. More apricots and pistachio on the finish, along with an overripe banana and some holiday spices.

Popped and poured on the first night. Very nice nose and taste of dried apricots. Finish not very long . On the third night, it was far far better (I'd give it a 94), truly delicious and with a very long finish. On night four, still quite good, but night three was the best. This is still a good value for the money.

Bordeaux Today (2005s & A Lone 2004) (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): Brilliant light gold in the glass. The nose offers gorgeously attractive and complex notes of Asian pear, pineapple, and honey. The palate begins with subtle botrytis bitterness and leads to pure pear sauce and flower flavors through the long finish. The fresh acidity serving as a counterpoint to the sweetness in this wine gives it wonderful overall balance and character. This is a great value and should compete well with the 2001.

Nose: Eggnog/ Dried Apricot and Pineapple/Honeyed Citrus Palate: Creamy Apricot/Banana/eggnog - very full and balanced - the finish lasted almost a minute.
Overall this wine did something that happens very rarely for me: it left me speechless. Everything about this wine was in check. The mouth was full and rich and the sweetness was present but not overpowering. Simply put, this wine really surprised the hell out of me and for $40 for a .750 and $25 for a .375 this absolutely blows my mind. I will be buying up all I can find.

Really enjoying this wine and expect that age will do wonders here. We got tropical fruits - maybe star fruit and papaya with strong (dried) pineapple on the nose and perhaps a little hay. On the palate it's exciting and well ballanced with a lovely honey/nutty flavor to round out the tropical fruits.

Drank over several days and just kept getting better and better. Honey, apricot, clove, pineapple. Thick, concentrated and complex and has the acidity to balance it out so it is not heavy or cloying. Long finish and should get better with some additional age.

color: garnet-yellow; nose; apricot, honey, dried pineapple, and loads of flower scents; super-smooth and plush on the palate - lofty - very concentrated and flavorful; nice acidity; not too cloying or heavy. Nice super-lengthy finish bringing lemon reduction sauce (like a Piccata) for minutes, literally. Could benefit from years more aging and add even more complexity. I had another glass tonight (2 days later), and I must say this is exquisite wine. Now picking up some nutty elements on the nose and entry; more lemon on the finish with spice complexities (clove, etc.); but it's just as lofty, elevated and balanced. I'm ready now to score this 95+ with great pleasure.

Intense honey on the nose, and some clove. Very luxe mouthfeel, that hits me right of front with delicious spiciness and power. There's some candied orange peel and enough of an acidic bite to be interesting. Also, I get something vegetal like asparagus on the mid-palate. Long gorgeous finish with almond, marshmallow, and a spicy kick that keeps on giving. I love this stuff, and will definately get more to lay down (will be hard to wait). 95pts., maybe more later?

Very nice. Much the same as the previous note from 3/15. I think the only negative to these little half bottles of Sauternes now is that they are starting to creep up the pricing ladder due mostly to the crappy state of the US dollar. We used to buy the 2003 vintage of this wine for about $15 for a 375ml and now they are popping up over $20.

Pale gold, typical sauternes nose and taste of tropical fruit/apricots with a bit of alcohol hotness, not as unctuous as some but a very nice, smooth feel. And obviously very young. Good QPR. I initially thought that the WS score of 93 might have been a little high when I first saw it but I now think that it is quite accurate. This is one of our favorite Sauternes and is still decently priced. We went through several bottles of the 2003 and by the time we ran out, the 2005 was on the shelf. Some honey and floral notes on the nose with a bit of citrus fruit and you can actually smell the sweetness as well. The nose actually reminded me of a good icewine, which seemed a little odd at first. The flavors, sweetness, and body were all commingling very well. I haven't tasted a lot of vintages of Doisy-Védrines, but I would hazard a guess to say that this is the best they have done in a long time.

2 hours in: Paint thinner has blown off on the nose, and the length has picked up a bit on the finish. 87-88
Day 2: Similar to 2 hours after opening. Balanced, still pretty youthful with tropical fruit and papaya. A bit of complex baking spice on the nose and palate.
Day 4: Excellent, balanced, exotic spice and a bit of honey. Lovely Doisy Vedrines. 88
Day 8: Similar to Day 4, excellent balance, spice, decent complexity, but showing maybe a touch of excess alcohol today. Definitely feels like it has fully opened at this point though not at all oxidized. 87-88

From a 375ml with some foie gras (de canard :-( )

Great. Excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. Very good nose. Easy drinking. Seems to be "turning the corner" in terms of developing the darker colors of Sauternes. Will revisit in a few years to see what has happened. Good to drink now, probably good for another 10 years or so.

Sweet, light, floral and pretty, like the first maple syrup of the season. 14%, $25/375ml.

You really can sense the amount of botrytis in this wine. The finish is long and clean, with excellent acidity refreshing the palate. Delicious.

Should keep very well for a looong journey in the time machine.

For the money, there's probably not a better Sauternes out there -- for under $40, this is an amazing buy.

enjoyable. acidity balances the tropical fruit, flowers on the palate, has good length. tropical fruit, boytritis taste, balanced, fresh but dense. less butterscotch and caramel, more banana and orange peel. very popular at the table. lengthy finish, and fairly complex with floral notes. much better than the rp 88. has enough balance to drink with a variety of food or sip on its own. lovely.

Very pale yellow/gold. Orange peel and botrytis spice on the nose (with a little coaxing). Pronounced spice on the palate, balanced with sweet/citrus fruit. Good acidity and nice length on the finish. Good QPR Sauthernes. Can't wait to see what my others do with a little sleep.

Gorgeous nose, with honey, apricot, and lots of botrytis. Medium bodied, a little thin compared to the 95+ Sauternes, and a medium-long finish. A wonderful bottle for protecting the 1er crus as they sleep.

Very nice, lemon, carmel, tropical fruit and a finish that was long and long and long. A nice hit of acidity that balanced out the sweetness.

Really good balance of fruit and acidity. Apricot, honey and persimmon. Has decent length and is not too thick and cloying.

Lovely sauternes with typical apricot and honey immediately apparent. Had this wine on Christmas day after large meal so don't have a lot of notes but I'd say this will get better and I look forward to drinking more over the next several years

My first dessert wine, and definitely not my last. Wow. Very lovely balance and complexity. Can't settle on a score really because I have no other sauternes to compare this to, but definitely impressed. I guess I'll have to thank GV for his glowing review which lead to my trying it.

A nice nose of honey and peaches with a hint of lanolin. Wonderful mouthfeel, with some acidity. Honey, pineapple and citrus predominant on the palate with floral notes and a graham cracker finish. Delicious. (From 375ml.)

Popped and poured on the first night. Very nice nose and taste of dried apricots. Finish not very long . On the third night, it was far far better (I'd give it a 94), truly delicious and with a very long finish. On night four, still quite good, but night three was the best. This is still a good value for the money.

Nose of a tropical fruit (mango, passion fruit, pineapple) in light syrup. The same with the taste for the first 20-30 seconds, but changes to dried apricots on the finish for another 30 secs. This coats your mouth, but isn't overdone. Has nice color.

Mucho botrytis and fruit, mucho lovely. Wide open and giving a ton right now. A bit too sweet (and thus unbalanced) to warrant a higher score.

At retreat dinner at Kimera. Not as unctuous as other sauternes, but wonderful fruit flavors--pineapple, peach and more--with good acidity that made for a very pleasant finish to dinner. Great QPR.

Nose: Eggnog/ Dried Apricot and Pineapple/Honeyed Citrus
Palate: Creamy Apricot/Banana/eggnog - very full and balanced - the finish lasted almost a minute.

Nice light colour with a flowery apricot and peach nose. Palate is more expressive than the nose with nice elegance and a compact structure. Needs time. all in finesse. Not a blockbuster but a solid, classically made Sauternes.

1/19/08: Want a world-class treat? Try this one (after it's been corked and open for several days/weeks - which mellows it out some - with a grilled egg-and-cheese sandwich. Sprinkle on a pinch or two Herbs de Provence to boost this exquisite pairing even further out into the far reaches of the utterly sublime.

Good QPR. (Edited to add: after a week in the fridge (open and recorked) it was even better. Really excellent. Terrific value.)
