Saturday, June 20, 2009 - Purchased on release. Decanted, rebottled, and served 5 hours later. A slumbering bear better left to hibernate until 2015. Massive structure and frame undergirding a freight car loaded with chocolate cherry, smoky black currant, and tar. The alcohol is prominent in the nose, but the concentration and power is handled by a cooling reservoir of seemingly endless depth, as lava flowing into Lake Superior. Robed in midnight blue, this is long, this is tannic of high grade, and this is balanced. And to be clear..., not over-ripe or fat. Huge, dense flow -- that is the imagery. 96 may be an understatement.
