Saturday, January 6, 2024 - Unlike most 2005s I've tasted over the past couple of years, I didn't have the chance to sit with this at home and follow it over a long period. So who knows, maybe it was open at the start and shut down, maybe it would have opened up in time. But over the couple of hours that I had it in the glass at dinner, it was brutally shut down. A big heap of fruit, shrouded in oak as young Angelus of this era is. Forbidding at the moment, demanding (not asking for) another decade.

I tried another in '21 and it was just barely approachable with a lot of air. Sounds like it's still wound pretty tight from what you are suggesting. I'll def save my few remaining bottles for the next decade.....cheers!

The one in '19 was so beautiful, in '21 it needed a lot of time and coaxing and still wasn't as good. There is no doubt that these complex Bdxs, some with a 50 year lifespan, rise and fall like the tides quite a few times during their lives. Twenty years ago, in my first decade of drinking so-so wines I never would have dreamt that. Now, I know better.....We just need to catch them at the right time.....Happy New Year!
