Saturday, October 19, 2019 - You know, sometimes you have a wine and sometimes you have a wine that is just a Royal blast. Opened 6 hours before dinner, decanted and observed every hour or so after. Slightest of barnyard on opening, gone after an hour. Crimson red in the glass, picks up darker character and weight with each passing hour. Lots of leather and lead pencil, red fruit turns to black fruit (blackberry), it is tart early on and changes later. It is like crushed velour in the mouth, pleasant acidity for the long run, a touch of iron and herbs round it out.

But I wanted to try one of my stash to see where it was. Contrary to pure BDX drinkers, I like them at all stages all along the way. My guess is it has another good 20-25 years, but the evolution over 6 hours was fun.
