Tuesday, March 23, 2010 - An expressive bouquet showing plum, coffee, chocolate and a hint of dark tobacco along with complex mineral notes of alum powder, dry stones, ash, and asphault. Very clean, with no barnyard or funkiness present. Where is the oak? Sweet, inviting entry leading to a rich palate of dark plum and chocolate that carries through to the finish which is surprisingly long and minerally. Very balanced. There are abundant tannins which are mostly hidden until the finish where they are sweet and integrated with just a little dryness. An intellectual bouquet and a sumptuous palate.

A small sample I saved for the second day showed freshness in the bouquet but was not as expressive as the night before. Smooth palate with a more apparant blue/black fruit profile with oak notes and minerals. Very well balanced among the components. The finish was more intense yesterday. Definitely a styled wine.
