2005 Château Phélan Ségur

90 Points

Wednesday, September 4, 2019 - This wine is evolving at a glacial pace. Already enjoyable--delicious, like so many 2005s it will be so much better with five to seven more years of proper cellaring.

Perfect cork; unquestioned provenance. Opened in the morning, decanted, and allowed to breath for eight hours. Served at 16 degrees.

Deep, pure dark red colour. Great viscosity. Beautiful luster in the glass.
Red fruits, a bit of oak and sage. Complex.

Beautiful plushness with this wine; great richness and weight but with real savour and lift. The 50% merlot is really shinning through right now.

Great food wine and I look to trying it again in 2023. Potential 92+ with some more bottle age

11/6/2019 2:32:00 PM - Great note, thank you. I agree, the Merlot is really starting to find its mushroom and undergrowth type flavours and smells with age. I drank one based on your note, thank you.
