Monday, April 23, 2012 - Beautiful elegant wine, with far more fruit than I expected. However managing the wine will make a big difference in getting the best out of it..... Initial nose was very musty and palate a little thin. Decanted half and left half in bottle. The decanted half opened up over about 2 hours, hitting its peak at the 2+ hour mark (went through 3-4 stages in that time). Elegant quite velvety but limited fruit. I then poured from the bottle (at about 3 hours) and it was really great. Much more fruit survived here. So the decant (at least in a broad based decanter) probably not the ideal way. My thoughts would be to double decant (if you have the time) – and leave in bottle between 1-2 hours before drinking OR to pour out the top 8 cm (2 glasses) into a decanter, sip that slowly after about 1 hour and on the 2 hour+ mark pour the rest from the bottle.
