Community Tasting Note

93 Points

Saturday, April 22, 2023 - No detailed notes taken. Tasted double blind. Very classic Bordeaux with a strong minerality and earthyness and a dark fruit core. A bit of tertiary development is there but this seems far away from peak. Medium complex only and the tannins have yet to melt and bring everything together. I know that many love this wine but I‘m not sure the quality of the tannins is good enough to be the legend many say this is (or will become). But don‘t get me wrong, this was very enjoyable but paled in comparison to the more complex and more elegant Bordeaux competition tonight (Conseillante 1989 at 96pts, Gruaud Larose 1989 at 95pts, Evangile 1982 at 96pts).

So the 89 Gruaud tasted great? Interesting to hear

4/26/2023 8:56:00 AM - Thanks for your input. My guess is that with all the tannic substance the wine has many might expect a transformation into something far more spectacular than what it is today. I wasn't around to taste it young and obviously can't judge it. But the tannin quality is slightly subpar in my opinion (beyond the typical 86 strudiness) and I don't see enough complexity compared to other "legends". But hey, others that understand much more than I do, are convinced this will become legendary.

Re Gruaud => posted the note in the meantime. Very classic Gruaud and as often, what it might not have in aromatic substance, it has in quaffability.
