Saturday, April 9, 2011 - Fevre Grand Cru's & 1964 Piedmont Dinner (Ian's House): The nose was filled with petrol, honeyed pears, flint and lanolin. The palate was surprisingly lithe, almost airy and not what I (or anyone else) had expected from this 22 year old Auslese. This was popped and poured and I think I made the mistake of not decanting this...with air, the nose opened up a bit. While not your typical aged Auslese, I found it to be very enjoyable and it paired very well with a beautiful oven-roasted pear dessert with creme fraiche.
