Tuesday, November 25, 2014 - The cork was in great shape (I did use an Ah So to extract it) and the wine had almost no ullage. The color was red tea but still very acceptable after 32 years. The nose is complex and slightly dominated by notes of brown sugar, but underneath it is all classic Pinot. The balance is slightly flat and the tannic structure is completely resolved. It is glorious and I wish I was sharing it with a someone who thought CA PN could not age because this is real example of a counterpoint. Storage of this bottle has been from the winery warehouse to my cellar 29 years ago. Other notes is that this was a period that Tim Mondavi experimented with retaining some stems during the fermentation. The alcohol is 13.5%.
