1982 Château Léoville Poyferré

Community Tasting Note

93 Points

Sunday, November 6, 2016 - From a pristine bottle, this has the lovely sheen I enjoy in good 82 Bordeaux but lacks a bit of sweetness, denseness and complexity. Very mineral nose - quite strict for a 1982, with more cassis and less of the rich dark fruit of Poyferre in recent years or St Julien notes of cedar and tobacco that I love. Outshone by a great bottle of 82 Gruaud Larose. No hurry here, drink to 2035. 93-94pts

11/6/2016 1:20:00 PM - I saw your 82 GL note, and then this. You had a hell of a fun night and it appears that the Poyferre was in some tough company. The 82' GL is all muscle, while CLP is more cute and refined. Both great, but better stand alone. Thanks for the fine notes!

11/6/2016 1:25:00 PM - We did have to 'keep drinking up' to clear room for the next waves of wines (of which these were one of the youngest!). Luckily it was a small group of fun people who are all very knowledgable, and have experienced most of these wines before. I actually prefer the 85 and 89 LP (although I'll try all 3 side by side soon). We are doing this again next month with even better wines!
