Tuesday, March 26, 2024 - I wanted to like this more than I did. Opaque dark purple and medium bodied. The nose leads with a smell of the earth when it starts to rain after a hot dry spell … rose petals … blackberry … cranberry. The taste starts with good acidity curled around a dark and deep fruit core of bruised sweet red cherries and plums. There’s a complex under current of barnyard funk, bone marrow and iodine/bromophenols. It’s all starting to mesh in a well balanced mix that finishes with a somewhat astringent lingering white pepper finish. It’s possible this has upside with more age.
