Friday, May 20, 2011 - Dark maroon with a pronounced watery lip. Tasted from bottle then decanted. Nose out of bottle was big leathery and dark fruit, now after about 1.5 hours it's raspberries and strawberries with a strong hot alcohol component to finish. Out of bottle and initially wine was very bog and full bodied yet tight. Wine mellowed quickly and after a short tannic phase has become softer on the palate. As with nose dark fruit flavor has softened to lighter fruit with hints of chocolate and coffee. Appreciable acids followed by lingering tannins. In retrospect may have been better to keep in bottle and let it open more slowly. Very nice wine, would drink now.
