90 Points

Monday, October 5, 2009 - After being disappointed by an overly austere '97 Bouchard Beaune 1er over the W/E (yes, I know we're talking '97), I thought I'd give this wine a shot tonight: Deep garnet with substantial clear rim; slightly high-toned nose of dark cherries, red plum and leafy, forest floor. Great mouthfeel of silkiness yet good acidity which further brightens the fruit quality. Softening out but holding up beautifully after a few hours. Has evolved nicely - looking at CT, appears no one has tasted this in quite some time (probably lacking the courage to wait on this one). Decently nice finish. Among the best '97 1ers I've had, the gulf between the 1ers and the GCs in this vintage is immense.
