Friday, August 6, 2021 - On open, the cork pulled easily with little or no seepage into the cork. In fact, the color seepage on the cork looked more like a 2017 than a 2014. Not very giving on the nose either. In the decanter it went. Garnet in color, no light edges somewhat translucent.

Meant to decant 90 min, but life got in the way, and 2.5 hrs it was. Transformation successfully completed. Oak and tannins integrated. While still young, this was delicious. Black fruit, fresh crushed blackberries, black plums, black licorice, hint of dried blueberries. A hint of butter cream. A nice mineral/herbal compliment with upturned soil, dried sage. There is a whole bunch of other stuff going here that I can’t pinpoint. Fruit is acidic up front, a bit muted on the mid palate before a fluid flowing finish that shows a hint of orange citrus oil. The finish went on a good 45-60 sec. 94 for now, room for 96 in a few more years. ‘Restrained’ Napa at it finest, would interested to pair this with food, I think it could shine more.

As to the future, for me next bottle in 2024, I think these are going to be best for my palate at 10-15 yrs with potential for longer aging.

8/6/2021 5:57:00 AM - Geaux, glad to see some notes on the wine. I've been building a small stash and have yet to pull one. Sounds like these are built for the long haul. I'm with you on the 10-15 year mark with the right site and producer.

I remember trying 16 at Blankiet but that was with the rest of the lineup. It was so raw and powerful. I'm really not the best to taste wines at this phase. Have you had any of the other vintages? Any of the Graeme vintages which I guess there is only two not counting 19 if it's in the bottle.

8/6/2021 9:15:00 AM - In hindsight, I would have exercised patience. This was my first run with Mythicus so no reference points. I have ‘13-‘16 sitting in the cellar. Can’t speak to changes after Graeme took over, but ‘16 was the last year I bought. Prices ran up and my allocations went down so easy to pull back from Blankiet. Quality juice though.

8/6/2021 3:09:00 PM - I've heard that from a handful of collectors. I was able to gather 4 bottles of 16 & 18 through friends allocations and wish listed bottles. I know the production is small and the demand is high. Hopefully the effort pays off down the road when I finally decide to pull a cork.
