Tuesday, September 17, 2019 - Visiting London, Galway, Dublin and Paris; 9/14/2019-9/29/2019 (England, Ireland and France): Pillot's 2015 Volnay is a seductively aromatic Pinot that is effusive of red plums, cherries, violets, baking spices and orange zest. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic, judiciously oaked and with well-woven alcohol (listed as 13.5%), it delivers flavors mirroring the nose. The middle palate is layered, which is where the tannins exert their influence. Closing with a medium-to-long finish that carries some grip, this is a quality offering that will be even better with another year or two in the cellar. Drink 2021-2027.
