87 Points

Saturday, August 4, 2012 - An interesting contrast to the 2009 Kutch Savoy Vineyard I drank two days prior (91 pts). Not just the decade difference but the color, nose, construction and flavor. I actually tried the PNX wine in 2001 at the winery and it was a flavorful delight. Today it retains its dense burgundy color and has a nice, if muted, nose of minty dark berries. On the palate the 10 year old wine does not fade but also does not sing. Blackberries and currants emanate with a medium mouthfeel (neither thin nor showing great breadth). These wine should have been consumed young but it has held together better than you might think. The 99 PNX retains a great depth of flavor but lacks the punch and shine of younger peers. Still an enjoyable wine.
