91 Points

Monday, April 6, 2020 - An enjoyable change from the most common white wines, the Verdicchio is a luminescent gold, really lovely, with a striking nose of basswood honey, ripe pineapple, and other tropical fruits. Surprisingly dry after that sweet nose (it had me expecting a Sauternes), the palate is actually firmly tart, with quince or apple flavors, and a long finish. Quite an unexpected wine in good ways, but not for everyday drinking. I would pair this with a rich pate, a blue cheese, or perhaps with Thai or Vietnamese or even Burmese curry... something with a coconut milk sauce, perhaps. It would be a fantastic match. In fact with the right food, Ian’s 94 pt score would make a lot of sense.
