Earthy with spices and leather. There is stil some dark fruit back there. Tannins are no longer noticable. There is acidity and works well with ricotta cheese in the lasagna. A little too much on its own for my taste. But I almost always drink Italian wines with food so really doesn't matter much.
The finish is medium in length. There is a little dryness on the finish but not enough to really detract
This is still a big wine but is refined and has a lot of grace. Sixteen years in, I think it is what it is at this point. Which is actually a pretty good place.
Will open the bottle in the near future.
