Drank last nite for GF2 dinner. Wine showing its age in glass. Still a bit of fruit here, lots of earth and leather notes. Acidity seems a bit high, wine not really balanced. Waited too long to drink tho not horrible in glass.

Pulled from Coravin with only a short time in glass. Nose of tobacco and spice. Earthy with spices and leather. There is stil some dark fruit back there. Tannins are no longer noticable. There is acidity and works well with ricotta cheese in the lasagna. A little too much on its own for my taste. But I almost always drink Italian wines with food so really doesn't matter much. The finish is medium in length. There is a little dryness on the finish but not enough to really detract This is still a big wine but is refined and has a lot of grace. Sixteen years in, I think it is what it is at this point. Which is actually a pretty good place. Will open the bottle in the near future.

Very good after a 6hr decant. Initially it seemed a bit overoaked and too concentrated. It mellowed down and came together nicely. Good wine. Went great with mushroom pizza.

Nose of iron and prune juice. This leads to an over ripe palate that echoes the nose. Nebbiollo tends to do better in less ripe vintages. A little clumsy, and lacking in the focus that a little more acidity would provide. Enjoayble but not memorable. Drink soon.

This was greatly enjoyable though somewhat perplexing. Good body and deep flavors that stated leathery and spicy and later displayed sweet cherry. it seemed simultaneously young and old. But don't worry and just enjoy.

Decanted. Still pretty dark in colour, dark cherry red centre, dark brick on robe and light brick red on the rim. Nose is a nice mix of black and red fruits and secondary notes. Brush and leather are the notes I pick up, but this is pretty complex, maybe a tinge of tar. Palate still shows some tight tannins along with brisk acidity, but there is enough red cherry and dark plum fruit to balance the tannins. Still tastes like it has some ways to go, even though the nose and colour say drink up. Glad I drank this now.
As an aside, I did a comparative glass tasting on this, and it worked way better in a syrah glass than a pinot glass. maximised the nose and minized the tannins.
Served with dinner in an Italian restaurant. Tight nose, dark fruity flavors, very little tannin. Perhaps could use some time in a decanter to open up more. Eminently enjoyable!

Medium dark red color. Splash decanted and drank with tasting menu over 3 hours. The nose opened over 15 minutes showing damp earth, wood, raspberry, spices, cedar, light florals, cherry, balsamic, briar. The palate has a good texture, medium full body, raspberry, framboise, earthy, medium tannins, anise, cherry, oak, medium finish. This still benefits from air to open and resolve.

A bit of air and this is drinking well. Still rather tightly wound, densely packed fruit. A bit ripe, but there is enough tar and espresso to give it a balance. Will re examine tomorrow after more air.

Medium bodied with soft tannins and nice complexity. Thoroughly enjoyable with food or by itself. The nose on this bottle was a bit too tight, which may have been a reflection of the glassware more than the wine.

Minneapolis Wine Club does Barolos (Pam's House): Nicely aged wine made in a fruit forward style. Cherry, raspberry and strawberry combine with wood, vanilla and spice. The palate and finish is integrated and I don't see this wine improving with additional age. Drink now.

Minneapolis Wine Club Barolos (Pam and Mark's): Dark red color with moderate bricking. Good nose, leather, licorice, earth, cherry, caramel, oak. The palate has earth, cherry, spice and pepper, medium finish. Nicely balanced. 90+pts.

This is a magnificent wine. Heady aromas of leather, dark cherry and sweet earth. Color is deep red translucent clay. Very long legs, slowly dripping along the sides of the glass. Sensual would not be the wrong word.
This wine immediately fills the mouth with round, lush flavor notes and a long, sweet finish. When tasting a wine like this, there is a struggle between balancing it up front on the tip of your tongue to prolong its full appreciation while resisting the urge to swallow and savor the finish. The only remedy is to drink again and repeat the experience.
I wouldn't wait any longer if you have any of the 2000. Drink now. It is ready and primo.

Pleasant and classic. Mature and very good drinking. The color was dark red. There was minimal aroma. The flavor was dusky with a solid fruit base. The tanins were subdued.

pop and pour at an afternoon party. nicely put together, with tasty fruit and some mild tannin. a pleasant quaffer displaying enough complexity to hold my attention in the glass, but hardly a blockbuster.

Served in a flight of 2000 Barolos as part of an Italian tasting menu. Decanted for 4 hours. Paired with a creamy polenta topped with pancetta and a salad of romaine lettuce, olive oil and gorgonzola piccante. This wine was not well balanced at this point in its evolution. The tannins and the oakiness were very strong and overwhelmed the fruit and the food. On that point, I did not pair this wine well matching it with the polenta. It tasted better with some of the antipasta meats, but it needs a more simple dish with plent of fat to cut those tannins. Underneath it all it had lots of nice elements. But not something I would add to my cellar.

Wild nose of overripe fruit. Some new oak. Better on the palate than on the nose. In the mouth, more intense than I was expecting. Thick / rich, with sweet red / black fruit. Not my favorite. The 2001 Luigi Pira Barolo Marenca, tasted side by side, blew this away.

Winestreet Tastes Piedmont: Others at the table didn't care for this wine complaining of too much wood, but I thought it was very nice. The color was a rich dark ruby red. The nose showed red fruit. The wine had a great presence on the palate from the attack through to the lingering finish. Maybe slightly "sweet" with licorice/vanilla, but not over the top. One of my favorites of the night.

Decanted 3 hours. Almost nothing on the nose without vigorous splashing. Explosive in the mouth. Rich red fruit, tar, smoke and light flowers. Delicious. Obviously nothing like this wine will be when it's truly ready, but the primary flavors rock.

Drank yesterday with spaghetti bolognese. Garnett, rust color. Still definitely too tight, though I doubt that the secondary flavors will be too prolific with additional age. May have one more left in cellar. I liked it better than Jee, but that's Barolo. Won't buy any more.
