Friday, January 26, 2024 - Old World vs New World: Merlot & Cab Sauv on Blueback Drive (Vancouver Island): One of four Merlot-dominant blends in a blind tasting of old world vs new world. Restrained fruit on the nose at first. Tasted lighter than its obvious fuller body. More savoury than fruit-forward. Finer tannins, perceived higher alcohol, refreshing finish “lip smacking”. Correctly id’d by most tasters as Old World; sadly no one's favourite (0/12 tasters). Later top-ups were better than initial tasting.
