Old World vs New World: Merlot & Cab Sauv on Blueback Drive (Vancouver Island): One of four Merlot-dominant blends in a blind tasting of old world vs new world. Restrained fruit on the nose at first. Tasted lighter than its obvious fuller body. More savoury than fruit-forward. Finer tannins, perceived higher alcohol, refreshing finish “lip smacking”. Correctly id’d by most tasters as Old World; sadly no one's favourite (0/12 tasters). Later top-ups were better than initial tasting.

Dark garnet color turning amber at the rim with rich, smoky, floral notes of red and black berries. The palate is full-bodied, structured and intense with medium plus acidity that balances the black currants and black cherry notes. This rides on a solid mid palate that introduces secodary flavors of cola, terracota, and rosemary leading to a long, mentholated finish. This rivals the 2013, and though riper in fruit, has not surpassed the 2013’s elegance. Drink now until 2030. 93+ Pts.

Delightful first hit and aromatics of plum and dark fruits with this Ornellaia second wine... thanks KN for the treat this evening (Made even more special as it was a 1.5 L Magnum) at Grand Imperial BSC.
I think I have only ever had 3 magnums, all being double regular bottle sized ones, so this is one of them.
Medium finish and perhaps could do with a longer proper decant, nevertheless an excellent Tuscan. Beautifully paired with Chinese spare ribs and noodles!

Super. Must decent at least 2 hours .... Garnet color in the glass. Nose a bit closed at first with a little cherry and some vanilla perhaps. Medium bodied with generous amounts of acidity. Lots of red fruit, earth notes, mushroom, ash, leather and a little bit of forest floor that not often is found in these types of Italian reds. Ripe, but oh so elegant in style. Everything is in balance. Very impressive.

Drank over 2 nights. 1st night - 2 glasses - 1 to 2 hr glass decant, barely drinkable, the bitterness was overwhelming in mid palate and lasted minutes even for the after taste. Vacuum sealed. 2nd night - opened up, dark fruits aroma and palate, with decent complexity, earthy. Bitterness reduced to barely noticeable aftertaste which leaves a rather elegant ending. Enjoyable, a 91. Will wait for 2 years before trying another bottle.

I would hold off on this. I see lots of the professional reviews are recommending drinking young. The tannins are very dusty, this will be better when some of them drop. There is enough fruit and structure. Raspberry, cherry, tea notes, maybe some graphite. Drink 2022 - 2026.

Dark garnet hues turning orange rust at the rim with a transparent edge. The nose gives off terracotta pots, glowing ambers and smoky notes of dried dark red fruits. The palate is full-bodied with a fleshy texture and bright acidity that balances the ripe dark cherry and raspberry fruits. There are undertones of dark chocolate, vanilla and cola that complete the core. Finishes long and dusty with faint hints of eucalyptus and dried oregano. This is an amazing Le Serre Nuove, showing more power and structure compared to the 2013 vintage, which displayed more elegance at this age. And though I lean towards elegance, it may very well be a matter of time until this really comes together. Drink now with a 1.5 hr decant or better in 2021 to 2035. 93+

On nose : mid+ intensity, red and dark fruit : cherry, red flora, tobacco, eucalyptus, lichorice, pepper spiciness, a hint of cooked red rice.
On palate: dry, med+ acidity, med to med+ intensity flavour, red and black fruit : cherry on front palate, mid body with a bit hollow feel on mid palate, high but fine tannin, pepper spiciness, some bitterness and lichorice with high alcohol(14% abv) and med finishing.

Not overly complex. Dark cherries on both nose and palate. Very well balanced with finely grained tannins and lively acidity to complement the generous amount of concentrated fruit. Definitely a right bank foil. Meant for near term consumption while you let big sister grow up.

Much rich tasty fruit on the nose and the palate, starting with some little loose-knit tannin in the background, needs at least two hours to be in a well balanced mood, clearly Merlot driven, lots of rich, nearly juicy fruit, plums, black berry, the fruit a whiff sweeter than a right bank Bordeaux in a succesful vintage, some herbs, ending notably persistent and fresh, that said for me an "nearly" everybody´s darling in a good way, if you like Bordeaux blends from elsewhere or and Merlot a convincing bottle, with a decent decant can be enjoyed from now on and over the next decade(+), **(*+)-?

Had this alongside a bunch of other newly released 2015 super tuscans. Decanted one hour. It was quite a good wine but didn’t have the complexity, depth or breeding of some of the others. The nose is pretty but simple. The palate is relatively open and round with pretty black and red fruit, tobacco and herbs. Moderate simple finish. Will be a enjoyable dinner wine for eight to ten years.

One of the best LSN I've had, even this early in its development. Rich and heavily textured, with red and blue fruit, some sweet spice and minerality. Fine-grained tannins. A long, spice-laden finish. Comes off more powerful to me than one would expect from a medium-bodied wine like this.

Plenty of red fruits and black currants. The wine drinks very well and has a ripe and fully balanced body. I am sure this will taste amazing in 10 something years and that is why I am storing a good amount of bottles. The wine has tasted better than the Flagship Ornellaia to me. Surprising isn't it?

In some vintages Le Serre Nuove punches well above its class and in my opinion, 2015 is one of them. Here I found a rich and layered bouquet with both blue and red fruits lifting effortlessly from the glass, followed by sweet spice, brown sugar and dark floral tones. It was silky and smooth on the palate, with medium-weight textures as mineral-infused dark fruits with a slight herbal twang washed across the senses. The finish was long and spicy with lingering fine tannins and hints of blueberry skin. Give this a year or two in the cellar and then enjoy it for a decade or more.

Opened and decanted for a couple of hours. Having drunk a fair amount of the 2013, which is one of my absolute favourites, I was eagerly anticipating trying the 2015 version. I was disappointed. Though 2015 is significantly younger, I wasn’t expecting it to be as closed and flat as it was. Very little charm (unlike the 2013). Maybe time will help it.

The perfect vintage for them. Very warm during the season and then just a touch of rain at the perfect time. There is a place on the estate that goes by this name. A true second wine. Younger vines and trying to bring a true second wine and a different expression to the estate. 15 months oak, 25% new oak. Full but still with acidity and a good bunch.

Alc. 14 %. Sucre 2 g/l.

Blend of 64% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 9% Petit Verdot, this Tuscan red blend is highly aromatic with a beautiful bouquet of rose floral, barnyard, earth, and sweet oak spices. It's medium-full bodied with very nice aroma replays on the palate, a touch warm, but well-balanced overall. Acids are very good and lift the slightly grippy tannins. Excellent finish length.

Another good showing for this young beauty, showing more red than blue fruit, with concentrated power and fine grained tannins adding texture.

Second wine to Ornellaia. Very nicely done. Good acidity and fruit mix. Sophistiacted and super stylish. 50% merlot. Yes taste the merlot. Relatively juicy merlot.

One of the best LSN I've had, even this early in its development. Rich and heavily textured, with red and blue fruit, some sweet spice and minerality. Fine-grained tannins. A long, spice-laden finish. Comes off more powerful to me than one would expect from a medium-bodied wine like this.

Floral, good bouquet. Well textured and mouth feel. Refreshing but still full bodied

Tre Bicchieri II - 2018 (Fort Mason): Very good. More dark fruit. Still a bit oaky. Brett and pyrazines. Acid is ok - medium plus. Medium plus softened tannins. Like a soft ripe Bordeaux.

Dark ruby colour. Subtle, focused nose of black currant, toast, cocoa and mineral. Full bodied, rich, firm, compact palate. Chewy, dark finish.
