Community Tasting Note

93 Points

Saturday, March 25, 2023 - Color: light gold, almost straw
Nose: ripe stone fruit, a hint of tropical fruit as well, a lot of wet stone and salty seashells. There is a honeyed note, a little hint of vanilla, and some wax
Palate: this has a good medium acidity, medium-full body and high intensity. It is salty tasting, the nose is confirmed
Finish: medium-long

This is an interesting wine. The aromas that poke in remind me of a white Rhone that has matured in bottle and shed the oak. The main character here though is unquestionably the Sauvignon, in a middle of the road style that i like a lot, reminds me of Friuli almost, with some obvious differences. This is a case study in blending excellent juices from the new world to move beyond the stiff categories of the old perhaps. Unquestionably, the winemaking and the fruit must have been outstanding. Ovid is now on the map, let's see if I can score some of their more prominent wines. This is at peak maturity, drink now. Slight chill or room temp will do, 45 mins of air.
