Friday, December 23, 2022 - Last bottle of this in the cellar from our trip to Italy in '18. Just splendid qpr with this one. Hard to believe how good this one is with food. Doesn't matter if it's a meat sauce with pasta or just a meatloaf. Soft and integrated and sublime red fruit. Well balanced and very satisfying. Sad to see it go......

Sangiovese for me is never going to be my favorite although some I have loved (particularly Brunello). But the super Tuscans are not as good as either Napa or Bordeaux for me. I am sure I just haven’t tasted the right ones with the right treatment etc…. And like most wines I am sure they will be amazing when tasted in their own habitat…

12/26/2022 7:35:00 AM - I have rather limited time spent with Italian wines but generally am not a fan of thin, lightweight Sangiovese based wines. In blends with Cab/CF/Merlot, I love it. Don't have much knowledge of Piedmonte at all so need to go there and experience immersion one day........overall, because of the acidity of what seems like ALL Italians, I must have food with them, otherwise, the heartburn reigns. Bdx similar for me, but it doesn't seem to be as mandatory to have food with Bdx for me as it does with the Italians. Maybe just 'my' stomach or palate?
