Community Tasting Note

Tuesday, February 23, 2021 - M&PD Zoom Tasting: Bordeaux around the world (Zoom): Very Bordeaux-like. Pretty. Really lovely tobacco. Sweet, delicate, cherry. Mineral. Quite austere at first, stunningly so. In the end, I did correctly guess Pauillac, as it just had the signature flavors and aromas. It also fleshed out quite a bit over the night, quite considerably, but it never fully opened. It really wants 10-20 more years. A gorgeous wine.

2/24/2021 9:35:00 AM - Happy to help. If you can believe, the initial impressions seemed to suggest the wine was austere, dilute, and hollow on the palate. Of course, there is no way that describes 1996 Mouton. Now a couple of hours of air helped it to flesh out, but I really think it just needs a lot more time sideways to really show its stuff.

2/24/2021 11:10:00 AM - I have been baffled at some of the CT reviews on this one. They can be all over the place.....I last had this in '17 in BDX and loved it, brought a couple of bottles back and have been chilling them ever since in the cellar. It HAS to be even better now nearly 4 years later and I suspect has much more time left, too. I think the real issue is how much air to give it and many here, don't seem to understand the importance of that. Of course, people drink BDXs for many diff reasons and want them in many diff places or states for consumption. I happen to enjoy them in any state, whether primary, as I did with popping some '16s last year or secondary or tertiary states as well. Depends on the mood, the company, the meal and the reason for drinking!
