Wednesday, July 27, 2022 - 2015 Tusk capped off the family vacation to Jackson Hole.

At PNP this wine has a rush of blueberry pie filling which reminded me Odette or Realm Moon Racer. A bit of chocolate and stone creeps in the mix (think LPV). If you've had Lail J Daniel Cuvee these bottlings favor each other IMO. Very Melka. Plush & silky without rolling over into the realm of jammy.

Drink or hold.

I was on the list from 14-16 buying the three packs and etched magnums for about $2,500 with shipping at release. Since my palate has changed and I would rather spend that money on vintage Abreu or Madrona or at release on wines like VHR or Kinsman. If you love Melka's wines I'd pick up the J Daniel Cuvee for half the price. Or, when we meet up one day I'll open a Tusk you can see if you like.

7/31/2022 10:29:00 AM - I guess this answers my question Michael! Based on your tasting, how age-worthy do you think these wines are? BTW....one very opulent way to cap off a family vacation! Hope everyone appreciated it! Also, does Madrona have their own wine? Not familiar with anyone but Abreu doing Madrona Ranch....

7/31/2022 5:35:00 PM - Great question about Madrona. I'll have to ask Brad what other wines are made from this site if any.

With regards to pretty much any Melka red I'm just not sure about the aging potential. My guess is they're built to drink after bottling for about 10-15 years max. I'm just afraid they'll roll over as there just isn't enough acid for aging.

7/31/2022 5:41:00 PM - Maybe!? And per your email Augie is awesome. I met him at Brand when Carbon was representing their wines. I just think wines need a bit more acidity than these offer to age long term. Put I'm way over my skis talking about this.
