Sunday, April 7, 2024 - One hour decant. Deep dark ruby magenta color. Blackberry, toasted rye, plum, milk chocolate, mushroom dust, graphite, and subtle fig. Smooth, dry palate, with good, lingering acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

This is rich, complex, and pleasantly aged. It may be just beyond its peak for my palate. It’s also an entry-level blend, meant to drink early. Pretty great for the price point.

I keep seeing 30-40 years and most folks have never tasted a wine that old (I have had a few). Most palates will not enjoy a 30 year old Napa CS (or at least they would agree it’s well past its peak). To the extent I can control things, I never want to drink wine more than a few years past its peak.

While I do enjoy and appreciate the good ones every now and then with a meal, I certainly don't want a whole cellar of them. If I have 2-3% of my cellar geared that way, I'm happy enough.
