Wednesday, May 25, 2016 - CDP All-Star Tasting (Extra Space): Tasted blind. Poured into decanter and drank over 3 hours.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose medium intensity, with aromas of earth, red cherries, red plums, slight barnyard. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (15.5%), firm high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries, red plus, licorice, spice. Long finish. Initially just muscular and rather angular, but this rounded nicely on the palate with more air.
Very good quality. Good structure and concentration. Needs a while in the decanter to open up. A more muscular style rather than elegance here. Drink over the next 5 years.
From Montalivet, La Crau, and Palestor terroirs.
75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% other varietals. Mostly old vines more than 100 years old. Aged in vat and demi-muids for about 18 months.
