Thursday, January 27, 2022 - Limited experience w Relic in general and first time w this label. After three hours of bottle air this was pretty tight so I corked it and saved it for the next day.

I won’t pretend to recall last nights nose but it’s nondescript day 2….. However the wine itself is stellar. Hits the palate in a tame, well integrated manner with a velvety, tannic coating. But aerate on the palate and you rip off that coating to reveal a classic calicab. Screaming blueberries before crushed stone makes a faint appearance; blackberry and cherry tobacco as well. There’s a bit of heat but it quickly disappears.

It’s rare that I’ll call out a $125 wine and say it punches above its price point, but this does. I’d trade 2 bottles of Shafer HSS for 5 of this any day. Just decant this when you’re having your morning pancakes.
