92 Points

Sunday, July 30, 2023 - First of 3 ($56@) after a one off 2 years ago. That wine came out youthful, roaring, even a bit fractious; I loved it, thought it one of the best qpr quaffs I’d had, and thought it likely to be long-lived, and if anything, more likely to get better than worse. Bit of a different experience here. Not quite like CT friend Mark, in that I don’t get the oak and would describe it more as a bit faded, at the least a lot less vivid, than tight, particularly compared to the last bottle. Having found that to be the case, I drank it with the cork back in the bottle, but with the slow ox and air in the glass over 2 nights, it did fill out, if not nearly to the point of what I remembered. At any rate, well balanced, with good underlying, but now totally integrated, structure, good on its own, even better with homemade thin crust pizza on night #1. Could this really have advanced this much in 2 years, especially when so many Tuscan ‘13s are just coming into their optimal windows, was it something with this particular bottle or lot? Well, stay tuned, as I’ll likely pop bottle #2 in the next 6 months or so, but at any rate, my 5-10 year window of great drinking is def on hold, and I’m pulling in my window by 7 years. 92+ with a ? Or 2.

12/6/2023 12:54:00 PM - These just popped up on Wine Access for $45. Think it’s still hanging in there or too late to buy more?

12/6/2023 3:46:00 PM - Good to hear from you, Dsenni; it’s been a while. I just had 2 more bottles of these about a month ago, and they were better. I had a couple of friends over and we drank the first with no air, it was good to go off the pour, incrementally better in the hour it took to finish. It was such a big hit with one friend that we opened another, and my last, bottle, consumed half that night, and I finished the next night, when, if anything, it was a bit better. I’d put both bottles in the 92-93+ range, which is a very strong showing for me at around $45. Drink in the next few years or so. Cheers!
