90 Points

Saturday, December 31, 2011 - Decanted 2 hours now. Still looking young, a rich dark red, black fruit color. Nose is not that great. Sharp leather, dry oak, dried fruit. Guess it smells Italian, duh. Palate is light, dancing across the palate, the fruit is mature, not as forward as I am used to in this wine. That fat Merlot mountain Italian fruit has given way to austere delicate flavors. Going nicely with the beef and risotto. This is a dry wine, the fruit giving way, the tannins are still there, gripping on the finish. With the last bits in a glass getting some real smoky notes on the nose, really nice.

Last glass. This has gone to that "porty place" now. Still the tannins and finish's are tight, huge fruit, killer. A confused state for me. Half me says Jesus the tannins are tight, the other says the fruit was too ripe when picked up drink up.

In the end I love this wine, it's place & varietal.
