Monday, September 20, 2021 - A bit of an old Parker favourite from an undervalued part of the winemaking world. Deep, dense ruby in the glass. The nose is expressive and attractive with plenty of spicy, peppery red and black fruit, dried herbs, tar and earth - classic Monastrell. The palate surprised me, being a lot fresher and less oaky than expected. There was nice fruit definition but it came across as unbalanced, and with little mid-palate depth and concentration. The tannin and acidity through the finish were pretty grainy and raw and everything just fell away on the clipped finish. Pretty disappointing but seems consistent with a few other notes here. I think there may be a bit of bottle variation in this vintage and this didn't feel right despite showing no obvious faults.
