90 Points

Friday, December 3, 2021 - Just another evening of good wine and cheer (Chilly Noe Valley): Brought by Laz to our tasting with the remainder left with me. Fairly robust nose and palate with forest floor, Xmas spice, red and black raspberries, earthy minerality and a pleasing black pepper kick. Medium ruby, light+ bodied, light+ legs. Medium+ acidity, medium- tannins, no heat. Good complexity, persistence and intensity. I'd not heard of this winery, let alone bottling, before, but I do have a fondness for WA Rhone syrahs (although Mouvedres aren't typically favorites). I wasn't able to taste this at our tasting--there were too many other things of greater interest--but the plus of that is that I'm able to give it closer attention on the next day. This has a nice Rhone spicy-earthiness, and is elevated by good freshness and the peppery kick. It's completely pleasant and moderately interesting, but doesn't leave me craving more and makes me scratch my head about Jeb's 96. Enough freshness to likely be solid for 5+ years, although I'm not certain significant improvement is likely. 90+

12/9/2021 1:56:00 PM - BRAVO for this COLORFULLY descriptive analysis -- & PARTICULARLY for ALL the work you put into publishing the AMAZING Tasting Story of which it is part! 👍 🙂 As for Jeb's & JS's scores 🙄 , at least the other 2 "pro" opinions [all of which are currently viewable @ the J.J. Buckley site] when averaged out are > in line with the way both you & I scored this. 🤔 Finally, should you be interested, I’ve uploaded info for this wine from the Charles Smith "stable" which you can peruse at your leisure. 😉

12/9/2021 6:23:00 PM - Well I'll just say I'm honored after 1+ week on the CA road to be part of this story - I liked this slightly more Coravined 2 days earlier however the TN is totally on point, would expect nothing less from our gracious host SF. Thanks again for an amazing CT pop-up tasting with the flyover country contribution! ;)
