Friday, November 3, 2023 - This pours medium ruby in the glass. The nose is immediately very expressive and classicaly rioja. Aromas are of dark strawberry, plum, dark cherry, cigar ash, cedar, faint coconut shavings, and a touch of dill. The palate enters on lush dark fruit with medium velvety tannin and medium to medium plus acid. The finish replays the cigar ash and cedar of the nose lingering impressively for the level. Overall I'm very impressed with this effort here from CVNE. It trades the dark fruited style all too often can feel like a black hole that I associate with CVNE and replaces it with something far more compelling and complex showing plenty of secondary character already. Though this is drinking nicely now, I have no doubt it will age for decades to come. Lovely young wine.
