Dark, medium to high tannins, bit grippy, earthy and brooding, medium acidity, jammy and juicy in a good way, not very complex but easy drinking and very enjoyable with some depth. Good value daily sipper with an extra level to it.

This pours medium ruby in the glass. The nose is immediately very expressive and classicaly rioja. Aromas are of dark strawberry, plum, dark cherry, cigar ash, cedar, faint coconut shavings, and a touch of dill. The palate enters on lush dark fruit with medium velvety tannin and medium to medium plus acid. The finish replays the cigar ash and cedar of the nose lingering impressively for the level. Overall I'm very impressed with this effort here from CVNE. It trades the dark fruited style all too often can feel like a black hole that I associate with CVNE and replaces it with something far more compelling and complex showing plenty of secondary character already. Though this is drinking nicely now, I have no doubt it will age for decades to come. Lovely young wine.

Good wine that represents the region well for the price. A wine that most people would enjoy.
Served partially blind in a lineup of other Tempranillo wines that showed more complexity and overall structure but all tasters agreed this is a good wine,

So i actually had a shootout between Zalto Bordeaux and Garssl 1855 for this wine and overall the Grassl 1855 did win. I got many different impressions from this wine , and overall the Zalto glass displays darker notes and also shows some bitter notes...were the Grassl is showing more bright and red fruits. Thats said i also did read on notes that was listed on the webpage from the shop where i got the wine....and it kind of makes sense. As i have red unripe fruits / blackberry but also a darker note like caramel / creme brûlée . When i look at notes from the dealers page it mention orange -coffe - cherry. Overall its not really a wine i like , but it was interesting also to see the difference between the Zalto and the Grassl glass.

Uber dark maroon right to the rim and impenetrable at the heart. Quite deep and rich on the nose. Layers of sweet oak, caramel, vanilla and chocolate, black raspberry, plum and blackberry, with a final bit of ink and charcoal on the nose. Velvety smooth, full bodied, tart acidity, crunchy dark berry fruit and a moderately long finish. Palate follows the nose pretty closely. The acidity keeps the perfectly ripe fruit in check and prevents it from becoming jammy. Of anything, it is just a bit short on the fruit body, but otherwise pretty high QPR on this. Very good and reasonably priced!
