90 Points

Wednesday, February 23, 2022 - Clear, med (-) ruby w/ a garnet hue. Med (+), tertiary nose w/ tart dried red fruit, dried roses, violets, tobacco, stems, earth, smoke and some oak induced baking spices (80% aged 12 mos. in large Slavonian oak casks and 20% in used French barriques for 14 mos.). Dry, but w/ sweet fruit. The acidity and tannins are med (+) and the alcohol is med (13%). Med (+) body, flavor intensity and length. Ends on a balsamic and bitter licorice note. Drinking well now, not likely to improve with further aging. Great QPR.

This really seems like a cool to moderate climate Italian red. The color points to aged Pinot Nero, Nebbiolo, Nerello Mascalese and Sangiovese. Aglianico is usually much darker in hue and deeper in color. Really nice wine, but not at all like the 2011 Synthesi that I had in 2015.
