  • Clear, med (-) ruby w/ a garnet hue. Med (+), tertiary nose w/ tart dried red fruit, dried roses, violets, tobacco, stems, earth, smoke and some oak induced baking spices (80% aged 12 mos. in large Slavonian oak casks and 20% in used French barriques for 14 mos.). Dry, but w/ sweet fruit. The acidity and tannins are med (+) and the alcohol is med (13%). Med (+) body, flavor intensity and length. Ends on a balsamic and bitter licorice note. Drinking well now, not likely to improve with further aging. Great QPR.

This really seems like a cool to moderate climate Italian red. The color points to aged Pinot Nero, Nebbiolo, Nerello Mascalese and Sangiovese. Aglianico is usually much darker in hue and deeper in color. Really nice wine, but not at all like the 2011 Synthesi that I had in 2015.

  • Ruby colour and notes of orange peel, mint, hazelnut and chocolate on the nose. It is a medium bodied wine with acidity, minerality and tight tannins showing flavours of sour cherry and espresso, along with herbal and earthy notes. Medium finish.

  • Aglianico tends to be dark, sinewy and chewy, but here we have a Pinot Noir wannabe. Pale color, light extraction and crisp acidity – add the moderate tannin level to the list and the wine now really looks unusual. It’s quite funky, too, but not in bad way, animal notes, mature Parma ham leads the aromatics. There is some cheese in it as well, perhaps, besides hibiscus and strawberry, and even roses. No serious structure, but intensity is great, it’s full of flavor. Drinks so well, a lovely wine.
