Friday, March 21, 2008 - Very interesting; this is Ramey's high-end cabernet sauvignon (with a bit of petit verdot) from the Rutherford bench area. I decided not to decant it and that was probably the right decision since there was no development in the glass for over two hours. Of course it's dark in color, but more puple than black. The nose was dominated by blueberry, which I find quite unusual in a cabernet wine, with some vanillin oak. The tannins very practically invisible at this time, either buried underneath the copious fruit or just silky in texture. The flavor profile is very simple but delicious. I am curious to see what happens over the next 10 years, but I am not tempted to buy any more than the few I have.
