Sunday, December 17, 2023 - 3 hour decant. Closed and needs way more time in the bottle. Found it hard to score this since I rarely drink wines so far in advance of their drinking window. Strong cherry and plum notes and strong tannins. First Biondi-Santi I’ve had and consumed to determine whether to purchase a half-case to put away in the cellar.

12/19/2023 7:45:00 AM - My $.02 is buy the half case and put them in the far back darkness of your cellar and forget about them for 10+ years. I believe these are going to be special. Also some history for the wine, as I believe it is the last vintage made under the old family ownership. In December 2016 Biondi Santi was purchased by EPI/Christopher Descours. The rumor from Montalcino is the former owner had to sell to settle gambling debts, and also that the new ownership is going to do great things with the wine and the brand. My impression is the Biondi Santi Brunellos and Riservas are going to become more desirable over time. We will see.

12/22/2023 3:47:00 PM - Thank you for your comment. Have been told to stock up on 2016 Brunellos by many, including reputable wine shop owners in Italy this past summer, so buying and cellaring was always on my mind. Bit the bullet and just ordered a 6-pack on pre-arrival for $200 a pop. Will be going into professional storage for a decade. Here’s hoping it’s worth the wait!
