Wednesday, October 10, 2012 - wood still present on the nose when the first glass was poured. That blew off after 30 minutes and primary fruit comes to the front - boysenberry, cranberry, green leaves, white flower, and linen; a feminine nose filled with energy. The taste is mostly front palate at this stage in it's development, but the balance is impressive and the flavors are very clean. The flavors run front-to-back with a light mouthfeel and lingering taste for 30+ seconds...an impressive Clos St Denis that is very young now - want to try it in 10 years time!

8/29/2020 9:09:00 AM - If my memory is correct Ponsot uses no new oak so a smell or taste of oak is very unusual in his wines. Particularly in aged wines. I will be drinking a magnum of the Domaine Chezeaux version of this wine which may or may not be identical. I have heard that Ponsot and Chezeaux versions can differ but I am not sure myself. Interestingly the posted prices for the two wines today are similar. In the past the Ponsot wine was more expensive.
