Thursday, August 31, 2023 - A lot of youthful Syrah notes, and even a bit funky. The notes are green, black and funky fruit on the nose. The palate however is a bit more "smoothed over" displaying black fruit, black olive, green olive, green pepper, and even a bit of fennel. This wine did have a roasted character to it, but the Cote Rotie definitely beat it at its game. This Central Coast wine despite its attempts to display an old world character was decidedly "new world" compared to the Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque. The wine finishes with a healthy dose of black pepper. Served En Magnum, I think this wine was mostly asleep and perhaps a touch disjointed, but went very well with the red meat / game dishes served at tonight's function. This wine needs probably 5 years En Magnum. This wine paired the best with the TriTip Burnt ends Mac and Cheese more than anything, as there were other wines that had more age and in smaller formats. This wine needs another 10 years En Magnum to develop more character, but was a nice contrast to the old world and Aussie Syrahs on the table.
