Wednesday, February 14, 2024 - New Zealand Trip; 2/10/2024-2/24/2024: Dark ruby. Bottle funk and bacony notes that blew off to show black fruit and cooler menthol. Medium weight with strikingly long clay base. Strict black fruit, excellent acidity, and firm tannins. Rather serious and backward right now, quite different from the “cheery cherry” of many of the Pinots we’ve had over the past few days. I probably would have guessed France if blinded.
