94 Points

Tuesday, January 30, 2024 - Came across some bottles at a nice price that I’m thinking about buying but wanted to revisit first. Slow ox for 24 hours and decanted for a couple more but that wasn’t enough - fairly closed/not overly expressive. Revisited on day three and it was better but even better on day four as it opened-up further. A lot of these 2019 Napa cabs are pretty darn stubborn. Nonetheless, I believe a promising future in light of how it showed on day four. I’m going to try and lay this vintage down for at least a couple more years. In my opinion, in the middle of Dunnuck’s 93 to 95 rating on day four. 100% cab.

1/30/2024 7:02:00 AM - Thanks for the sacrifice. This wine was amazing out of the gate and then it shut down. 4 days to open, was it a slow ox or decanting?

1/30/2024 8:32:00 AM - Originally a slow ox for a day, a couple hour decant, then put the rest in the bottle and let it breathe in the cellar over day three and four. I’m most likely done buying more of the 2018 and 2019 vintages. I still think patience will probably be rewarded but I already have enough of those vintages laying down and I’m not overly confident. I’m curious if you’ve heard much about the 2022 vintage yet? Thanks. Take care.

1/30/2024 8:56:00 AM - Not a whole lot, but what I have heard has not been glowing. I'm really impressed with 2021, especially Mike's Myriad and Quivet productions. I have gone in pretty heavy on the 2021's and anticipate purchasing less of the 2022 vintage. The Myriad and Quivet Napa Valley Cabs are outstanding and probably the best vintage since the 2013's

1/30/2024 9:39:00 AM - I more or less have heard the same about the 2022 vintage. However, I also heard terrible things about the 2020 vintage and Mike killed that vintage. I’ll probably be very selective with other wines but I’ll continue to buy Mike’s entry level cabs. I also agree with you about his 2021s but I do believe they should benefit from another 6 to 12 months.

1/30/2024 10:31:00 AM - With some air those entry level Myriad and Quivet Cabs sing. I agree with your last note on the 21 Myriad, two days of air (slow-ox) and that wine was ready for business. With most of the entry level Cabs priced at close to $100 level and definitely north of $50, I will be very selective. Pricing of Cali Cabs are getting to be extreme/ ridiculous.

1/30/2024 5:02:00 PM - I’m with you. The 2021 Myriad Napa cab might be the best vintage of that wine. I believe the Lewelling Vineyard fruit really shows with that wine.

2/6/2024 8:56:00 AM - badmonkey, curious as to where you bought this wine. Cab prices on Mike' wines have really risen, but in addition shipping from California is too high, hoping you bought in Michigan. I'm leaning to buying less from clubs unless there is a big incentive.

2/6/2024 9:27:00 AM - I hear you - the shipping prices from the wineries direct aren’t cheap. I bought it direct from the Winery but I have cut back on direct purchases quite a bit with the exception of Quivet, Myriad, Becklyn, Carter and a couple others because I can’t get them otherwise. It’s frustrating with the recent price increases for wine out of Napa as it is but even more frustrating when you tack on the shipping costs. Take care.
