Saturday, December 3, 2022 - Started off fairly tight, and opened up over the evening. This could benefit from a few hours in a decanter at this stage. More structured and less fruit forward than previous vintages (although I haven’t opened a 2018 yet). Dark purple color, black cherry, black current, and blackberry. Less prominent baking spices. Smooth mid palate. Good now, but I think this is going to get better with some age.

12/9/2022 4:06:00 PM - Nice note and I fully agree. In my opinion, it’s better on day two and even better on day three. I believe another year or two should help. FYI, I just had the 2018 and 2019 vintages side by side. The 2018 is drinking better on day one but could use another year in my opinion. More fruit with the 2018 vintage. Take care.

12/11/2022 6:24:00 AM - Thanks! Yes, this one felt different than the 2014-2017s that I’ve had. I pulled the 19 instead of the 18 based on my general experience that 19s were more ready to go than the 19s I’ve had. It was still very good, just a little more restrained than normal.

12/11/2022 6:47:00 AM - I actually had another bottle last night on its second day. Enjoyable but I should have given it another day - just a little tight with the finish. As you stated, more structure with this vintage. I think it’s the Scarlett/McGah fruit that is holding it back. I had a bottle of the 2019 Scarlett cab a couple weeks ago and no surprise that the winemaker said to give it two to three years - it clearly needs time. Take care.
