Thursday, January 19, 2023 - Dark plum, ash, campfire, sweet barrique. The fruit is voluminous, but the wine remains rather dry, anyhow. Better with food, lacking perhaps some acidity to provide lift and moreishness. Still, it is a complex wine with lots of appeal. I believe it will peak in a year or two, once the barrique integrates better, and before the fruit starts to fade. The texture could be mistaken for left bank bordeaux, I think, but also the volcanic influence is obvious. On day two (vacuum), the rough edges are almost gone, and the fruit profile leans more towards red berries and strawberry caramel. 91+ points.
