  • Dark plum, ash, campfire, sweet barrique. The fruit is voluminous, but the wine remains rather dry, anyhow. Better with food, lacking perhaps some acidity to provide lift and moreishness. Still, it is a complex wine with lots of appeal. I believe it will peak in a year or two, once the barrique integrates better, and before the fruit starts to fade. The texture could be mistaken for left bank bordeaux, I think, but also the volcanic influence is obvious. On day two (vacuum), the rough edges are almost gone, and the fruit profile leans more towards red berries and strawberry caramel. 91+ points.

  • Zoom tasting with Silvana Galardi. Drank in Grassl 1855.
Appearance very deep intensity, opaque purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intnesity, with aromas of deep blackberries, tobacco, black licorice, sweet spies, some lack pepper and backgrund leafiness. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, glossy burnished fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of polished black cherries, blackberries, boysenberries, black licorice, sweet spices, black pepper, blackcurrant leaf, tobacco. Wife says macerated caramelized ripe strawberries or reduced strawberry balsamic vinegar. Long finish.
Very good quality. Certainly a complex wine, but not in harmony yet. Will need more age to come together.
