Friday, March 5, 2010 - This bottle was decanted and poured. This wine continues to show a stern and unyielding personality. The reticent aromatics demonstrate black fruits, smoke, tar and rock notes; however, even with airing they fail to evolve or become more accessible. The color is a dark ruby to almost black that is correct for the wines age. The austere palate shows initially shows firmness that only softens slightly with airing. The tannins give this wine a stern, structured impression. All the components are here for this wine to improve with bottle age; however, unlike some of the other recent vintages of this wine, it lacks the forward accessibility when young.
