Monday, November 13, 2023 - Duck, duck, abortion!; 11/11/2023-11/17/2023: Aromas of eucalyptus, and fresh red fruits with brightness. A touch of bright, sour blueberries as well. This reminds me of a Paso grenache (neon berries, or the Jolly Ranchers artificial notes).

Palate showed dried earthiness, dried jerky, and dark and austere red fruits. This did not show what I thought it would, and it is hard for me to see it getting there.

Day 2 [technically day 3, (bottle recorked, stored in cool temp) did not taste on day 2 but did on day 3]: Aromas showed darker red fruits, with a freshness with the aromas of neon berries/Jolly Ranchers moving more into the background. There are some notes of Iberico ham and red floral notes. A strong scent of dark earth and plenty of dark, wild undergrowth.

Flavors show a bit more of a juicier tartness of dark red berries from a grenache, some graphite, deep earth and dried leaves. There’s notes of dried twig and tree bark as well. Finishes with plenty of tannin like steeped tea, bitter minerals and that dried oak note lingers on.

This showed much better with a ton of slow-ox (corked back and stored upright in a cool area ~56°). I hate saying this but this is gonna take a good amount of time for it to integrate and develop more, guessing around 8-10+ years. It can use a healthy decant if you plan on opening soon.

11/20/2023 12:12:00 PM - I think 19 & 20 are better left alone early. I had a 17 early that just blew me away and I've been remind a few times since then that is not always the case.

Both the red and white are doable now, just needs lots of decanting.

11/21/2023 7:40:00 AM - patience my friends, these need 10-20 years to get into form. The 2020 is supposed to be built like the 1990 and 2010 which are legends. I know hard, buit these need time and a lot of time. I will say I drank the 2010 in 2021 and it was the best wine I ever drank. Yes young, but showed amazing.

11/21/2023 11:34:00 AM - I hope that's the case re 2020. I backed the truck up and even scored two mags this year. I'll take down a 2010 if I can find the right price.

11/22/2023 7:41:00 AM - Very similar trend. I've been mixing in a good number of whites to the mix as well.

11/22/2023 8:24:00 AM - what whites you been drinking? I have Aubert and Rochioli single vineyard chards, bought the Kinsman Eades whites, and have a few vintages of Trimbach Emile. But no really go to whites, I buy them one off, premier cru white burgs and Riesling for example, but not a consistent one each year except for maybe Aubert. Champagne on the other hand, nothing is hitting better than bubbles right now, my favorite varietal by far!!!!

11/23/2023 6:52:00 AM - I've been exploring a good number of the Eben Sadie whites from S. Africa. Champagne I take a good number of flyers from VinesRare/WHWC & The Bottle List. Great write ups usually sell me on a good number of btls in the $65-$100 range. Dhont Grellet, Suene, Stephane Regnault and many others come to mind.

I love geeky whites like grenache blanc from Chateau Simon in Palatte. Albareno's from Spain & Chablis are always welcome at the table as well.
