Wednesday, January 2, 2019 - Clearly some bottle variation, as their are some not so nice notes immediately before mine. We opened and aired out for 20 mins. Nose shows some of that teritary/secondary aromas that come with age, and this smells like Beaune all day. Iron and leaves, very earthy and tea spice. The palate is still rather youthful, there's a sweet, almost sappy fruit to the dark cherry flavors. Very long on the back end. Acid is not as present as might be expected from '96. Good drink. I'd put it just above the '02 from last week. Entering a prime zone, it seems.
