2021 d'Autrefois Pinot Noir

Community Tasting Note

Does not like this wine:

82 Points

Saturday, December 24, 2022 - The nose is promising enough with an attractive, savory, fruit-heavy bouquet--seemed almost more like a Grenache than Pinot, which is especially surprising for a Pays D'oc Pinot. On the other hand, it is a bit of a mess on the palate and lacks finesse. An underlying character of cooked greens (think kale) yields a slightly astringent note that is disappointingly not offset by rather austere red fruit--which is particularly notable given the nose. Some other interesting elements include green apple flavors and accompanying acidity; green olive; jackfruit; and citrusy Myer lemon. While all of these are pleasant enough individually, they just don't seem to meld in this wine. All of this wraps up in a long finish, which is not particularly an attribute in this case given the wine's lack of structure and its chaotic balance. Definitely more of a food wine than something to sip on the deck. While inexpensive, there are better options out there, especially if you pony up another buck or two a bottle.
